Description
Smart Tech valve
The Smart Tech Smart Valve, activated by a non-powered humidity and moisture sensor, is a new patented controller for controlling the flow of water to plants, allowing any user to set up a maintenance-free system with tray, pots and water inlet.
How does the Smart Valve work?
A smart valve has two compartments – one open to the environment and the other forming a channel through which water flows under certain conditions. The two compartments are completely separated by a pressure-transmitting membrane. The “open” compartment houses the precision-engineered disc of the smart actuator. This disc detects the need for watering and allows watering as needed.
When the Smart Valve is properly connected to the water tank, the trigger detects the humidity and water availability in the plant root environment and responds by opening or closing the water flow. If the humidity is less than 70%, the valve actuator remains in a dry, uninflated state (Figure 1) and water flows through the valve into the soil at the roots of the plants.
Water flows until the Smart Valve actuator detects that the local humidity exceeds 70%. It then swells, closes the valve and stops the water flow (Figure 2). It remains in this swollen state until the humidity returns to a lower level. When the humidity decreases, the disc shrinks to its original size and shape and the process starts again.
